Because he didn't care about being rich all he cared about was helping people. The difference is being a king he would be wealthy and Money. And being a hero means that your just doing the right thing.

I think Beowulf would rather be a hero than a king because he likes to be in the action. He is the type that likes to fight wars and save people. He does this because he wants to be know as and epic hero and not just a king who gives orders. Honestly I would rather be a King. I picked this because the king is rich and powerful, and can give orders.

He would rather be a hero so he doesn't have to watch over an entire span of people like a king does. If he were to mess up as a king hundreds would suffer.mas a hero only he would suffer the consequences of his own failure. I'd rather be a hero than a king. Being responsible for all of those people knowing that one mistake could end it all would b to much for me to handle.

I agree with Cody. I can see where he thinks that. Having to take care of a lot of people is a lot different and more difficult than looking after yourself. And he seems to be prepared to accept when he will be defeated. And so if he ever is defeated, if he was a king he would be automatically at fault for his warriors being defeated as well as himself, where as a warrior he would only be responsible for his own death and his death alone.

Because he has more dignity to nhimself just to become king, he might just want to stay the person he is at the level he is, which is a wise man and a great warrior. And if it was my choice to. Be either a plain ol' king, or an outstanding fighter with gret strength and wise ideas I would choose the warrior hands down any day.

Beowulf would rather be a hero then a king because heroes are loved by everyone because they save people. While kings often have enemies because they are the rulers of people. Heroes save the day! People love people who save their lives. Kings just send people out to take care of bad people or monsters. They can't take credit for any of it. Being a hero, you can take credit of it and everyone will love you!

I believe that Beowulf would rather be a Hero then a King because as hero he doesn't get that much recognition. As being a king you'd get all the fame and glory while you have people hard at work. The difference is being a King you rule all, you have a b to protect the people and distinguish being a King as all honors and duty. As a Hero you do get little recognition, but less subject to all. Also as a Hero you take more self pride. In line 162 in The Fight With Grendel it says "And Beowulf gained glory of the battle." supporting me on how you take more self pride and glory. I would rather be a King. All the power and what not would be tremendous. Hero has some power just in military uses, while a King gets everything.

A hero will be remembered forever and a king just has power over "his people". A hero saves lives, inspires people and helps other people. A king makes laws and rules the people of his country. Grendel is no braver, no stronger than I am! I could kill him with my sword; I shall not. I will meet him with my hands empty-unless his heart fails him, seeing a soldier waiting weaponless, unafraid. (Lines 677-687) That sounds like Beowulf wants to be a hero to me. . A hero is not a football player that scores the game-winning touchdown. A hero is usually an ordinary person that did something very special FOR someone and does NOT expect something in return. That is why I would want to be a hero.

I agree with most what you said. Except a King is written in history for what he did and the credit he receives. Also Beowulf is no average person he is one to be believed from the heavens. A King is a King while Heroes try to in glory. People may never forget Heroes and their legends live on while a King is written in stone.

I think that Beowulf wants to be a hero. I don't think that he would want to rule everyone. I think that he would rather just help people and save them. He don't want to be ruler. I would rather be a hero because, I want to help people and save them.

Beowulf would rather be a hero than a king because he probably wouldn't want all that power. Also being a king has its responsibility. I would rather be a hero because people would love you for saving people's lives. Usually people hate kings because the people have no choice on what the king wants. And also I couldn't handle all the power

I agree with Tyler Hagan. Beowulf would much rather be a hero so he can help the people. He wouldnt want all that power and he wouldnt know what to do with it. Beowulf wouldnt want to have the responsibility of being the king and having to rule. He would much rather get recognized for saving people and being a hero, i think.

I believe beowulf would rather be a hero than a king. He would rather be a hero cause I believe he enjoys getting attention and he likes the action. The difference between the two is that a hero protects and looks out for the people. But the king is a ruler and people protect him and he tells and looks over the people.

"This hardy hero. Heorot is cleansed, " I chose this quote because it takes about Beowulf being a hero. I believe Beowulf doesn't want to be king because he wants to travel to different places. He doesnt want to be tied down. He loves being a hero cause he can travel and be a hero everywhere! Not just in one place.

I think that he'd rather be a warrior than a king because he wants to be in the action. Instead of being head of the country. A hero is protecting people and fighting. While a king just sits and makes orders. I'd rather be a hero, instead of making big decisions I'd like to be out there fighting.

Beowulf would rather be a hero, for the glory and action. A hero is looked at as a leader someone to turn to, and a king isn't guaranteed to be liked. A king needs to be protected, and Beowulf would rather protect. It says in line 142 &143 " Beowulf brandished his ancient iron to guard his yield."

I agree with Amanda. Actually, a hero is more respected than a king. A kingn has power over a kingdom. But a hero such as Beowulf has the respect of the people and gets to run around and do epic battles.

I think that Beowulf would rather be a a hero than a king be because if your a king then what happens is in your hands. The difference is he could just be the one everybody loves and he wouldn't have to tell people what to do. I would rather be a hero. I would rather be a hero because I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not I'm making the right decisions.

He doesnt want to be a king, beacuse he doesnt want to rule & be in charge. If he was king he wouldnt really care about helping people. He would rather be a hero. So, people will look up to him & so he can do the right thing.

I agree with Cody maupin. If you mess up while you're a king and you do something wrong, it's on you. If you're a hero you would only be hurting you if you mess up. Anyway being a king would be a hard job.

I think Beowulf doesn't want to be a king because if he becomes a king he'd have to change himself and be more emotionally attached to people, instead of not worrying about anyone other than himself as a warrior and a hero. If he would become a king, then he would also not be a epic hero because of that emotional attachment. Epic heroes are not emotionally attached to anyone, so becoming a king would make him not be a epic hero anymore.

And also, in the text Beowulf says himself that he would much rather be in the midst of the action out on the battlefield than being a king and not being able to fight anymore.

I think Beowuldf would rather be a hero then a king because a king doesnt do the fighting likie heroes do. The king says who fights, he orders everybody around. While Beowulf does everything because he wants to do it. The difference between the two are heroes do everything just because they want to or the kindness out of there heart. Kings dont do anythimg besides give orders and expect everything from somone.

The reason Beowulf liked being a hero instead of a king is he got attention and he liked to help everyone. It says in the text that Beowulf helped a lot of people he never really wanted money, and that pretty much all a king is money an power. I'd rather be a king because I would have power and a lot of money. But being a hero would be cool to cause then I could help people.

I agree with this because beowulf did like attention. And being a hero helped him get attention. Plus he didn't really want money, so he didnt want to become a king.

Beowulf would rather be a hero because he's an epic hero and you can't change a century's old poem. The difference in the two is a king is responsible for everyone and a hero is responsible for himself...unless other people are involved. Beowulf called Hrothgar a gold friend of men and epic heros don't have friendships/relationships while a king can. I'm a girl, so I'd rather be a queen than a king or hero because I'm lazy and I don't like to go anywhere, and Im terrified of my own shadow so that automatically rules out hero.

I think Beowulf would rather be a hero than a king because every bad thing that happens its would always be the kings fault. And a hero would be known for saving lives and helping out there community. Also a king would just sit around and order people around when a hero can go out and make a difference in person. I would like to be a hero because I wouldn't want all the responsibility relying on me. And I would rather make a difference in person than sending someone to make the difference for me.

I think that Beowulf would much rather be a hero than a king. He likes to be the one in action and to be doing the fighting. But, he only does it to help people, not for money. In the text it says that he doesn't care for the money, he just wants to help the other people and keeping them safe, when a king only gives commands/orders out. Beowulf does it all on his own.

Beowulf has Epic hero characteristics: Thus eliminating him from ever becoming a King. He shows no remorse or emotion towards death of people. King's must show faith and compassion in-forth of "his" warriors. I would personally rather be a King. Life would consist of Royalty and vast luxury: Beowulf's life seems good up until a epic flaw, or until he actually becomes the brief Hero.

I think the reason Beowulf rather be a hero than a king is because Beowulf is a hero born to be a hero he is a epic hero. And he rather fight and he is the one to save people and be there when no one is

i think that beowulf would rather want to be king. Because the king gets all the credit. When other people do the work. The difference is the king rule everything. A hero gets some reconition but not as much as a king would. And has glory. Line 162 " and beowulf gained glory of the battle" witch supports what i think a hero is.

I think that Beowulf would rather be a Hero than a King. A hero helps people and a king just wants to have power. A king gets alot of recognition because he rules and has all the power. Beowulf wants to help people and a king just wants the money, and orders everyone around. Beowulf fighs to protect so hes a hero. I would rather be a hero , so that i could help people and not a king just for the money and power.

Beowulf would rather be a hero because he doesn't have to show emotion like kings do. Being a hero means the people always like you but you fight for your self, you don't have people protecting you like a king. I would rather be a hero because I wouldn't have to worry about making the wrong decisions for someone else.
