I choose the motif of animals. Cause animals is used through out the whole novel. By saying lennie is strong as a bull, how Curley squirms like a fish when lennie breaks his hand, and how lennie likes to pet mice to calm himself down. It's important because it describes actions and feelings through the book.

Yes it does turn to animals a lot in the book. But he might do that because that is what is easy to him. Ya it's easier to comper people to animals because there is so many of them, and every one has a different personality to them. So ya I agre with you on this.

I'll choose the solitare game. The solitare game is repsersented throughout the story and playe regualary. Unlike poker the boys or just George will play the game. With this happening it shows how even when they didn't have T.V. or anything else to pass the time they played the game and it connected all the boys throufgh the game and made them open up. We learned a lot about peoples past and life throught the game

A certain motif would be how Curley's wife is always looking for him, and Curley is always lookingfor her. This is important because it shows how messed up their marriage is. It ahows that they can never keep track of eachother and they never know what the other one is doing. This could be the reason that they are mean no only to eachother but to everyone.

I have to agree, looks that Curley was jealous of the other guys. And curleys wife was always going around the guys asking if they have seen Curley. And Curley got fired up when he couldn't find his wife and thought her and slim was in the barn together.

I agree with you Kiana. You have to have good communication to have a good relationship. If you dont then you will never know how the other feels and of you think that the other person is angry then you'll be angry and then you'll take it out on everyone else. It's not good to take your anger out on other people.

I agree with you. Curlews wife and curleys marriage is real effed up. Especially since she is always running around and he is practically chasing her. They might as well have been playing hide and seek! And in the end of the book he doesn't even care about the fact he loved her and she was dead. I think he only cared about the fact a big guy did it. Well done you!! Smart ole Kiana!

all though this is recurring i disagree with kiana. I dont think that should be considered a motif, because it doesn't add anything to the story. I think she is right also, because it shows they have a bad relationship. I think this foreshadows that trouble will happe with his wife.

My Motif would be when Curley and lennie got into a fight, cause Curley was punishing lennie in the face and lennie he kept hollering for George! And when George kept telling lennie to hit Curley back. Lennie stood there with his hands by his side, and finally when he got mad enough he grabbed curleys hand and squeezed, and broke every bone in his hand.

The motif I'll talk about is usefulness. Steinbeck is trying to show that after a certain age your not really useful anymore. Also, if you have a certain injury your not as useful as you could be. Like Candy & his dog. Candy is old and is missing a hand, but he works as hard as he can. His dog is old and doesn't even help out anymore. He just follows Candy around.

The motif I choose is the animals. They talk about animals through the entire story. They compare Lennie to a horse because it said he drinks his water like a horse and they compare him to a bear because he drags his feet when he walks the way a bear drags his paws. In the story they also compare Lennie to a bull because he is so strong.

I am choosing animals as the motif. I chose this because animal similarities are used throughout the whole novel. He uses animals to relate the characters to animals to describe how they act and or feel in the story. Like Lennie is always described as a bear, a bull, or a horse. Only to show how big and strong he is.

I agree with Kelsey. The animals are a super important thing in the story because they are used to represent something. The mice represent how lennie is big but doesn't know how to control it. The dog was a comfort animal for Candy, just like the pups are for Lenni.

Usefullness is a big motif in m&m. If you out live your Usefullness you get put away wether it's in a coffin or getting fired. If you outlive your Usefullness no one takes pity on you. In the society at the time if it wasn't usefull they didn't have it.

I choose the solitaire motif. I choose this because throughout the book it is used a couple of times. I believe it is used to express the loneliness they feel. George keeps playing the game, and I ink he does because of where even though he has "friends" he is different from them. I mean, look at Lennie.l.he isn't really the brightest crayon in the box and George is constantly having to watch him and Lennie Is a grown man!

Uselessness is also a motif that wasn't mentioned , that is used. This motif is mostly for candy and his dog. They both are very old, they are disabled, and just kinda of a waste of a space. Even though they wouldn't hurt anybody or bother anybody , I think Steinbeck added them in this novel to show that , even though they are useless , they still can play a big part in a story.

In the book of mice and men characters are decribed as people. Like candy and his old dog or lennie and oxen. These are just a few that are in the book of mice and men. This shows he time and place of where these people are and what the writer was thinking.

I chose solitaire. I think that its significance in the story is to show how lonely not only George is, but the other men, too. You read about how Candy and Crooks are willing to help George and Lenny work on the land that they may or may not get, and i think its because they want to feel like they have a place of their own, and have a steady family or group of friends, and they hate the ranch. Slim thinks its weird that George and Lenny travel together, and that most men travel by themselves, (which is why their lonely) Also, I thing that George may be feeling like he is kind of alone, because although he does have Lenny, he probably wants someone that he can actually talk to who can listen and understand.

The motif that I choose is animal. In the novel Of Mice and Men Steinbeck describes people as animals in some parts. For example Curley is described like a fish on a line because he is up in the air swinging because lennie has ahold of him. Another example was when lennie was drinking from the water like a horse. I like how steinbeck uses this motif. It actually makes us think of what they look like.
