Yes Americans take democracy for granted. In other countries they don't have the opportunities like we do, and some people don't vote; then they go and complain and complain and so on . The importance of voting is being able to put your word out there. Yes, each vote does matter it gives our representatives what to say for our state.

I think they do take it for granted. The importance of voting is It's your civic duty. Each vote does matter. The reason is because every one votes for someone different.

I believe that Americans take democracy for granted. I think this cause of freedom, goto school, vote. You have freedoms to do stuff on your own time and if you don't wanna have to do it then you have that freedom not to.voting is a freedom cause you have the right to vote or not to cause you have the freedom to this or not.
Blake Davis

I believe Americans sometimes take democracy for granted. But other times they don't, americans these days are lazy and I think they just vote to get it over with. Like they hear about people talking and choose when they should chooses for themselves. Or they could just be lazy and don't want to do any work and choose because they like what they hear and don't get any further information,

Yes, Americans take democracy for granted we are one of the only country's in the world that can do this. In other country's people die all the time just for giving there opinion. And I think that the fact that people don't vote oils just wrong considering all the things we can do that not many other people can.
Kelsie Barrett
11/7/2011 12:48:39 am
Yes i think us americans take democracy for granted. Because other country's don't have the opportunitys and freedom we do. And we don't realize how good we really do have it. It is very important to vote. So each American can have a say in who they want to represent them. Yes each vote matters. Because one vote could mean a different person as are president!!

I agree with Tyler Hagen because I also do believe that Americans take stuff for granted. Other countries don't have what we have and they probably wish they did. And we just sit here and take it for granted and don't care. I bet if they moved here they would cherish it for their whole life. Unlike us that take the democracy for granted everyday of our life.n 11/7/2011 04:39:45 am
yes we take democracy for granted. we as a nation have a lot more opportunities than other nations. that give the U.S. population to have more freedoms. we have the ability to chose what we wount and where we wont to go in ower lives.

yes i think we take democracy for granted here in the great u s of a. because think of all of the third world countries being ruled be force or kings. these people would do anything to have a say in thier government. then there are people here who just dont vote on election day. there are people who just dont care when the election day comes around. these are the people who dont vote then complain their butts off when the person that gets voted in isnt the one they wanted.

yes, i think americans take democracy for granted. We have freedoms that no other countries have. and, we're always complaining about some problem. People in other countries would do anything to live in america, where they're free. And yes, each vote does matter, one vote could be the deciding vote on who our president or leader may be. i think it's very important for everyone to vote.

I agree with Kelsie Barrett. What she said in her comment was exactly what I think as well. We do take advantage of democrcay. And it's very important that we vote, because it determines who leads our nation. Also I think that we don't realise how good we actually have it here in the United States.

Yes, people do take democracy for granted. Each vote matters. And when you dont vote, just think about it, the person you would have wanted to win didnt win because of just YOUR 1 vote. The importance of voting is to make sure that the person you want to win, wins! and to get your word out there that, that person deserves to be what they are representing. Yes, EVERY single vote matters.

Most Americans do take democracy for granted. For some reason we can't get it through our heads how lucky we are to have oppertunites such as to vote. People have died for you to be able to do these things, and there are people out there that would die trying to get these oppertunities that we have.
Amanda Baker
11/8/2011 11:46:31 am
I agree/ Disagree with liz. I disagree with her statement claiming that someone won't win because of your single vote. I personally don't think that one vote has that much importance. But I have to agree with her when she said that if you choose not to vote, then you choose not to have a voice and you should have no say in anything. I mean really, you have no right to complain about how someone is running our country, if you didn't even vote!

Yes, a lot of people today take democracy for granted. Theres so many countries that dont even get a small opputunity to decide what they want fortheir goverment. The importance of voting is very high, because it's our chance as the people to take a stand for what we want in our country. Each vote matters completely because it's with those votes that we choose who we want to speak for us, to make choices about what's to be done to our country for us.
jill taylor
11/9/2011 05:44:55 am
yes i think americans take democracy for granted. we have the right to have a say and yet we dont even go and vote then we throw a fit because the person that won in any case (like presidency),when really its our fault because we didn't vote. so yes we do take it for granted. And the votes do matter because if you want some one inperticullar to come in to office or somew one to be in charge your voice needs to matter you cant not vote and then the person you want to win . the importance of voting is so we can have some one good or some one we want to be in office.

I think a lot of Americans take democracy for granted, because thats all everyone has known if you've lived here all your life. But if any of us had to go live in Africa or somewhere else where they stress over every drop of water, when we are here taking 30 minute showers, they probably never get enough for a drink of it. We take all the things we have for granted, a lot of countries only have a voice about what happens if they have money, anyone in the United States can vote if your over 18. The importance of voting is one vote can change what happens, and when you take about 40% of the eligible voters in the U.S. that don't vote that makes a huge difference in who has power.
Summer Johnson

Yes, I think Americans take democracy for granted. Can you blame us? We take it as a given because ever since we have been here its been a Democracy, Well, unless you are around 230 years old. I think its important for Americans to vote, because its a huge responsibility for us. Its a way to make a change, but is it a civil duty? No not really. We should vote, but we dont have to. I dont think every vote should count, because some people vote for random people, not the person that should truly hold office.

Yes, I think Americans take Democracy for granted. I think that it is good because it allows us to vote in the leaders and representatives we want. Some people don't like it and complain about it. Those are usually the ones that dont vote and then complain if the person they wanted didn't win the election.

I think we do take democracy for granted - we think we have the "God given right" to do or say as we please. We see signs of hope and promise, showing time and time again that our parents (us too when old enough) want to have the voice that only voting can show. Voting matters to our daily lives and of people we don't even know so it does matter. As an example "Fairness Act and alcohol sales"

Voting is very important. Every vote does count. When you place a vote you are helping support whatever it is that you are voting for. And whoever you are voting for appreciates your vote very much and it is helping them get to their dream. People do take our democracy for granite. Not all people realize that if we didn't have a democracy we wouldn't get to state what we believe and we wouldn't be able to do what we want. We would get stuck with a king or a ruler that would completely take over and tell us what to do. You wouldn't have any say so in what goes on.
Kelsey Marinelli
11/9/2011 11:14:37 pm
I agree with Haley because people do often think that they have the right to do as they please. People don't think about what would happen if we didn't have the people that we vote for. If we didn't have them everything would be chaotic and crazy. We should appreciate all the people that step up to take control of our government.

I agree with Caleb Goss, there's so many people that would rather complain about the government instead of taking charge themselves, but of course that is because most of Americans would much rather take an easier route and bicker and complain instead of actually doing something. Caleb also had another good point. Yes, it is our responsibility to vote, run for office, etc. But, that does not mean all of us are going too, because it's not something we actually are forced to do. We should really be thankful for the options we're given, and not waste our energy on simply complaining about it.

Yes americans do take democracy for granted. We get more freedom to do what we want when we want. Other people come to the U.S. so that they can get a job, have a better lifestyle and to get a better education, otherwise they would not get any of this wherever they lived before.
